(01) Hello

I'm Jacob Archer, a technology founder in Savannah, Georgia. I'm building Cities In My Pocket, a platform that connects the people and organizations of a city, and built MemberIQ, growing software for membership organizations, and TravelIQ, software for travel agencies.

I'm a builder first. I like finding a real problem, getting close enough to understand it properly, and then making the software that fixes it—designing the product, building it, and putting it in front of the people it's for.

The question in the car

Cities In My Pocket didn't start in a pitch deck. It started in my car. I spent a lot of time driving visitors around Savannah, and nearly every ride included some version of the same question: what should we do while we're here?

I had answers. The city had answers too—they were just scattered across websites, apps, brochures, and word of mouth. A visitor couldn't see them in one place. The businesses that would have been perfect for them had no way to reach them at the right moment. And the people responsible for promoting and running the city couldn't see any of it happening.

That was when the problem got bigger than tourism. It wasn't about a better list of recommendations. It was about a city whose pieces weren't connected.

Why I build

I've always been more interested in making things work than in talking about how they might. Software is the most direct way I know to take something I've noticed in the real world and do something about it.

It's also why I stay hands-on. Designing the experience, shaping how the data fits together, building the product, and putting it in front of real people keeps me honest about what's actually working.

From one city to many

Cities In My Pocket began as Savannah In My Pocket, an app for one city. As I worked on it, I kept running into the same thing: every group in a city needed a different view of the same underlying picture.

Visitors need to know what to do. Residents want to know what's happening near them. Business owners want to reach the people around them. The organizations that promote a city want to understand its visitors, and the ones that govern and serve it want to understand its community.

Cities In My Pocket is built around that idea: one shared foundation, with an experience designed for each of those groups. Savannah is the first city. The system is being designed so other cities can follow—that's the plan, not a claim about where it runs today.

How I build

Start with a problem I can see with my own eyes. Keep the complicated parts behind the scenes so the product feels simple. Build things that can keep growing for years, not just launch well.

MemberIQ came from the same instinct. Membership organizations were running on spreadsheets and disconnected tools, so I built one place for their members, communications, and day-to-day work.

Alongside Cities In My Pocket, I've developed software for other industries, including TravelIQ, a platform created around the operational needs of an established travel agency. Working directly with real businesses has shaped how I approach product development: understand the problem, build the system, and refine it around how people actually work.
